Embroidery can be done one of two ways. Either manual or hand embroidery or automatic or machine embroidery. Embroidery can be done on most clothing materials, but it is often found on hats, coats, blankets, dresses, denim, stockings, and pillows.

There are many different types of thread that can be used depending don’t the material you are embroidering. Stranded embroidery cotton, silk threads, and metallic hand embroidery thread are some common types used.

The stitches you use when embroidering depend on the material used and what your design is. Some common techniques or stitches are chain stitch, buttonhole or blanket stitch, running stitch, satin stitch, and cross-stitch. These stitches are the fundamental techniques of modern embroidery.
